NFL Football Picks: Philadelphia Eagles vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Thursday, August 18, 2011
The Keystone state hosts one of the feature matchups from the Week 2 NFL pre-season schedule, as the Philadephia Eagles travel to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night. SportsBetting.ag Online sportsbooks have the line currently set at -3 for the home side.
While not quite an annual event, the NFL has made a habit of pitting these two franchises up against each other in pre-season action. This year will mark the 36th time they’ve met in exhibition play, with the last one being in 2008. Not that it is overly relevant for betting purposes, but it is interesting to note that the series is dead even, tied 17-17-1 over that stretch.
Both teams head into the new season with very lofty goals and expectations. If either team is sitting at home watching the Super Bowl, their seasons will have been disappointments.
Pittsburgh will be playing in front of the home town faithful for the first time since their AFC Championship win over the NY Jets last January. Their first pre-season game last week was on the road…and it was an ugly one.
The Pittsburgh Steelers managed only 186 yards in offense while allowing close to 500 in a Week 1 loss to the Redskins. Obviously there is nothing to be alarmed about as it is pre-season ball and the starters saw a few plays each and called it a night.
The new-look Eagles, on the other hand, had a smooth start, scoring a 13-6 win over the Ravens at home. Both the starting offense and defense looked in good in their short playing time (one series).
This week the Philadelphia Eagle starters are expected to play into the 2nd quarter and maybe all the way to the half. The Steelers starters will also play the 1st quarter for sure and maybe longer.
SportsBetting.ag NFL Picks: I really like this Pittsburgh pre-season QB rotation and think it gives them an edge in this matchup. With Ben Roethlisberger getting more plays, then handing off to Byron Leftwich and with Charlie Batch and Dennis Dixon behind him, it is an impressive lineup with tons of NFL experience.
I think this will be the difference in getting the Steelers their first pre-season win.
I like the Steelers art -3 Thursday night.
